Donated items can sometimes serve an even bigger purpose.
Tim Philpot, MBA, CPA, is a Family Wealth Advisor and the Founder of Preservation Financial in Roanoke. He discovered Christ’s Haven a few years ago when his wife donated items to the Christ’s Haven Resale Shop.
They quickly learned about the mission and wanted to find ways to become involved. The timing was perfect as the organization was launching the inaugural Christ’s Haven Clay Shoot. As an avid clay shooter, Tim was able to combine his love of the sport, his business expertise, and his desire to support the Christ’s Haven mission. Now, approaching his third year serving as the Clay Shoot Co-Chair, Tim has helped raise $150,000+ to go to Christ’s Haven’s mission.
What about the Christ’s Haven mission is most meaningful to you?
My early years growing up included seeing the destruction of addiction and abuse in a family. When my mother remarried, the man she married helped me embrace education, which led to me becoming the first person in my extended family to earn a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from a university. It was this nurturing home life that led to the advancement of my education, but it also taught me the importance of a stable and emotionally supportive home life. What I finally experienced in my home is what the mission of Christ’s Haven is all about… providing a stable, nurturing and motivating environment for children which leads to productive, compassionate future leaders in the community.
Why is it important for local businesses to give back to a place like Christ’s Haven?
My business partner, Quinn Moser, and I believe the blessings we receive in our lifetime should be given to the communities in which we live. Our company, Preservation Financial, continues to grow and thrive allowing the support of a nonprofit organization. Our belief is that it’s only common sense as an owner of a business to participate in making their business community a better place in which to do business. Nonprofit organizations are constantly working to make that better place a reality. Invest in them so they can have the resources required to fulfill their mission.
