Chapel Ribbon Cutting

Christ's Haven Chapel Receives Renovations & Updates

Christ’s Haven’s Chapel was recently renovated thanks to the support of Jami & Chris Kindle along with many of their colleagues and friends.

Throughout the last 12-18 months, the Kindles and their friends collectively raised funds, in-kind donations, and services to update both the Chapel interior and exterior.

Jami & Chris have a special connection to this spot on the Christ’s Haven campus, which goes back 10+ years ago when they were married in the Chapel. In the years following, they started volunteering at Christ’s Haven. From directing traffic at the Fall Festival to registration check-in at special events and even serving at the College & Career Professional Meet & Greet, they help in a variety of ways.

As the Chapel began needing repairs and updates, Jami & Chris took it upon themselves to gather support and make the renovations happen. This way of bringing along friends to raise support echoes a similar effort during the beginning years of Christ’s Haven when a group of friends raised funds together to purchase the land in Keller.

The Chapel will be utilized by Christ’s Haven staff for trainings and events as well as be available for private rentals for weddings, showers, and events.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the donors who helped make this renovation campaign possible along with VLK Architects for their guidance and renderings.

Christ’s Haven 2023 Annual Report

It is around this time that we release Christ’s Haven’s Annual Report to celebrate the programmatic successes from the previous year and share our outcomes.

This year there is much to celebrate. But even still, I remind myself that each statistic, each metric, and each outcome represent more than just a number. They represent a child, a teenager, a young adult, or a family that has come to us when their world has been turned upside down.

I can’t forget the look on the face of a caretaker who has made the difficult and brave decision to place their child at Christ’s Haven while they stabilize and get back on their feet. Or the look on the face of a teenager who has been couch surfing for months and finally feels at peace in a safe place to live. Or the look of pride on the face of a child who after two school years with consistent academic support is reading on level.

I hope you will picture those faces as you read how our programs are growing and adapting. And if you are the numbers type, one number that sticks out the most this past year is 38%. In the last four years, the number of calls we have received asking for help has increased by 38%. A heartbreaking number that so many more families are needing support.

Knowing the life-changing impact being made every day at Christ’s Haven and the increasing demand for services, will you continue your support of Christ’s Haven in 2024 to provide Normalcy, Dignity, & Hope in the lives of displaced youth?

Sincerely,

Cassie McQuitty
Christ’s Haven For Children CEO

Family Resource Center Hosts Free Oil Change Event

Christ’s Haven’s Family Resource Center recently teamed up with students from the Keller Center for Advanced Learning (KCAL) Automotive Program to host an event that offered free oil changes to some of our FRC families.

Thank you to the AutoZone, located on Main St. and Keller Pkwy., for providing servicing supplies.

But this wasn’t just about getting free car maintenance; it was about community collaboration and providing a learning opportunity for students enrolled in the KCAL automotive program. Students got hands-on experience in servicing vehicles, applying their classroom knowledge.

The FRC was created to stand in the gap for families in need. It was a great day supporting FRC families and giving local students real world experience.

Christ’s Haven’s Child Abuse Prevention Month Art Installation

In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month in April, Christ’s Haven partnered with the Keller Police Department with an art installation of 481 blue pinwheels in honor of the 481 victims of child abuse in Tarrant County each month.

The following community leaders came together and shared a brief program about the importance of child abuse prevention:

  • Cassie McQuitty, Christ’s Haven, CEO
  • Will Brockmoller, Keller Police Department, Detective
  • Misty Gann, Keller ISD, Social Worker
  • Armin Mizani, City of Keller, Mayor

At Christ’s Haven, we want to stand in the gap for families in need. That means preventing child abuse by supporting families with our Family Resource Center utilizing these Protective Factors:

  • Parental resilience
  • Nurturing & attachment
  • Knowledge of parenting & child development
  • Concrete support in times of need
  • Social connections
  • Social-emotional competence of children

If you suspect abuse, please call the TX Abuse Hotline at 1-800-252-5400. We know all families go through challenging times. The Christ’s Haven Family Resource Center is here to help: christshaven.org/frc

Christ’s Haven Resale Shop Ribbon Cutting

It was an exciting day at the Christ’s Haven Resale Shop Ribbon Cutting celebrating the recent renovations. Thank you to the generosity of the Keller Neighborly, spearheaded by Jay Bunte and Ashley Gosnell, for the community fundraising efforts to make these renovations happen.

When gently used household items are donated to the Christ’s Haven Resale Shop, donors are supporting the mission in two ways. Houseparents are able to utilize the items needed for the youth living in our neighborhood of homes. If not needed, donated items are sold at the Resale Shop and all proceeds go directly to fund Christ’s Haven operating expenses.

Every donated item adds up. Since the store opened in 1996, sales from donated items have brought in $12 million in revenue to support youth living at Christ’s Haven. We are grateful for how this store serves so many at Christ’s Haven and in the community.

3rd annual Professional Meet & Greet

Christ's Haven hosts 30 professionals for networking opportunity for teens & young adults

The Christ’s Haven Professional Meet & Greet has become one of our favorite events. We hosted 30 professionals from a variety of industries and job roles to meet the teenagers and young adults at Christ’s Haven along with local foster youth.

Providing introductions and exposure to what different career paths can look like is an example of our Core Value of Hope for a bright future.

Thank you to all of the professionals from the following companies for giving your time, sharing your expertise, and providing Hope.
